  Microsoft opened a backward-compatibility program that runs original Xbox games natively on Windows PCs, launching four titles first. People who bought the games digitally can now play them on PC and handhelds, and they are included in every Xbox Game Pass plan. It is the first step of a long-term preservation and distribution push to bring older console games to PC.

  SoundCloud acquired Nina Protocol, a decentralized platform that let artists sell tracks straight to fans and keep all the revenue. It picks up Nina's music-journalism archive and genre map, and gives existing artists migration tools to move their tracks and content over. The deal folds indie-focused distribution, fan relationships, and monetization into SoundCloud itself.

  The Ministry of Culture and the Financial Services Commission opened manager recruitment for the 150 billion won 'K-Culture Value-Up Fund,' which invests in AI content tech and large content firms. 100 billion won goes to AI-based content planning and production and to game, video, and music IP companies; 50 billion won goes to content production and distribution innovators. Proposals are due August 12, with final managers chosen in September.
