- [Music Business Worldwide] The Majors and HYBE Jointly Propose Chart Eligibility Rules for AI Music ↗
Universal, Sony, and Warner Music, joined by HYBE, BMG, Believe and others, eleven music companies in all, proposed eligibility rules for tracks made with generative AI to enter official charts. Only tracks that use lawfully licensed AI tools, are substantially human-created, raise no streaming-manipulation concerns, and disclose the AI use to listeners would count. It is not binding yet, just a joint standard the group is asking chart bodies around the world to adopt.
- [TechCrunch] Winamp Returns as a Unified Music Player Powered by Deezer ↗
Winamp is building a paid music service on Deezer's white-label streaming tech and licensed global catalog. The next-generation player, due in the first half of 2027, is designed to handle streaming tracks alongside a user's own local files, internet radio, podcasts, and personal cloud library in a single app. Deezer supplies the music and the technical infrastructure; Winamp runs the brand and the user experience.
- [Los Angeles Times] SiriusXM Launches a $5-a-Month Bundle of Major Sports Audio ↗
SiriusXM launches 'Sports Pass' on September 1, bundling NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL games with motorsports, golf, WWE, and regional sports radio. Five dollars a month covers home and away play-by-play plus analysis shows, podcasts, and 24 regional stations. It repackages audio rights that were scattered sport by sport into one cheap subscription.
One line: bundling what's scattered is keeping as many people busy as building what's new.
