Daily 8/28: Naver shuts down VIBE, Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, Kakao Entertainment's Dark Chaser

Naver will shut down VIBE at the end of the year and shift its music strategy toward a Spotify partnership. Google added video-control features to Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, while Kakao Entertainment unveiled Dark Chaser for webtoon and web-novel IP protection.

  Naver will stop new VIBE sign-ups and recurring payments on November 27 and shut the service down on December 31. It also outlined playlist, likes, MP3 backup, and refund procedures for users. Rather than running its own music platform, Naver is moving the center of gravity toward Spotify playback inside Naver Plus Membership, search, and maps.

  Google introduced Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash on August 27 and made it available through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio. The new version supports scene extension, 4K upscaling, and interpolation between first and last frames. Generative video is moving from one-shot creation toward finer editing and control, making it easier to embed directly in creative tools and media-editing software.

  Kakao Entertainment published its ninth anti-piracy white paper and unveiled Dark Chaser, an in-house copyright protection system. It links illegal-content detection, reporting, takedown-status checks, domain tracking, and response history management while analyzing infringement patterns and connections between sites. The system now monitors roughly 16,000 webtoon and web-novel IPs around the world on a 24-hour basis.
