- [TechCrunch] Instagram Takes Long-Form Video to 90 Minutes in a Challenge to YouTube's Creator Economy ↗
Instagram is testing a new Features format that lets creators upload videos up to 90 minutes long. The test began in Brazil and is expanding in a small U.S. test, alongside Clips as Reels, which links short Reels to the longer source video. Meta has not settled a long-term monetization model, but says it is exploring ways for creators to earn from brands, fans, and Instagram through performance-based incentives. The move targets YouTube's stronger economics: its Partner Program shares 55% of video ad revenue with creators, and YouTube says it paid more than $100 billion to creators, artists, and media companies over the previous four years.
- [GamesBeat] Remix Launches a Desktop Platform for Building Games Without Coding ↗
Remix has launched desktop apps for Windows, Mac, and Linux, extending its game-making platform across the web, iOS, and Android. Users can describe a game idea without coding, while Remix's AI writes the code and the platform adds leaderboards, achievements, real-time multiplayer, hosting, and sharing. Creators made about 100,000 short games after the 2025 mobile launch, and Remix now has more than 1.5 million users. Creators own and can export their code, while AI creation plans start at $5 per month and can connect existing Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google subscriptions.
- [CNET] Canva Releases Its Proprietary Craft Image Model Globally for Designers ↗
Canva has released its first proprietary image model, Canva Craft, to users globally. The model is trained on Canva's library, licensed and public databases, and data from users who opted in, while a two-stage architecture plans the layout before generating the image. Early DesignArena results placed Craft fourth overall among image models, with strong results for portraits and product imagery. Canva is also building on Magic Layers so users can edit generated results element by element, even as creators continue to raise concerns about training data and the need to verify human-made work.
One line: Platforms are adding long-form video and no-code game creation to keep creators and audiences inside their ecosystems, while proprietary AI models compete on editable production results.
